Our garden is a shared community space.
A few simple guidelines help keep JOTE safe, welcoming, productive and enjoyable for everyone.

💚 Respect & Community

At JOTE, we ask everyone to:

• Be respectful and tolerant of others.
• Help everyone feel safe, included and welcome.
• Respect the rights, backgrounds and cultures of others.
• Communicate respectfully and raise concerns constructively.
• Supervise children and animals while they are in the garden.
• Treat JOTE property, facilities and other members’ garden beds with care.

🔐 Garden Access

JOTE members have access to the garden for their enjoyment and participation.

• Please visit during daylight hours.
• Keep the front gate secure.
• Garden access information is for members.
• Members and visitors must follow JOTE’s Code of Conduct and Garden Rules.

🌻 Garden Beds

JOTE has both shared community garden beds and individual garden beds.

🌱 Community beds
Produce is grown collectively for members and community purposes.

🥕 Individual garden beds
Members with an allocated bed are responsible for its care and maintenance.

Please remember: Produce growing in another member’s individual garden bed must not be harvested without their permission.

🌿 Organic & Sustainable Gardening

JOTE is committed to sustainable and environmentally responsible gardening.

Members are asked to avoid chemical methods of pest and weed control, and invasive, dangerous or poisonous plants should not be grown at JOTE.

🛠️ Tools & Shared Facilities

Our tools and facilities belong to our whole JOTE community.

• Clean tools after use and return them to their proper place.
• Report broken or damaged equipment.
• Wind hoses away after use to prevent trip hazards.
• Leave shared areas clean and tidy.
• Take your rubbish home with you.

🐝 Wildlife & Bees

JOTE is a garden full of life.

Bees, worms, birds and other wildlife are part of our garden ecosystem. JOTE has beehives on site and plants bee-attracting flowers throughout the year to support pollinators.

🌱 Garden & Gather

Garden & Gather sessions are an important part of being a JOTE member. They bring us together to care for shared spaces, tackle seasonal jobs, learn from one another and enjoy some social time in the garden.

Garden members are expected to participate in at least six Garden & Gather sessions each year.

🛡️Keeping JOTE Safe

Keeping our garden safe is everyone’s responsibility. Please help us look after yourself, other members and our shared spaces.

🚭 Smoke & drug free — JOTE is a smoke and drug-free site.

🍺 Garden responsibly — Please don’t attend the garden while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.

🚶 Keep pathways clear — Keep paths, hoses and shared areas clear to reduce trip hazards.

🛠️ Use tools safely — Use garden tools and equipment responsibly, clean them after use and return them to their proper place.

⚠️ Report hazards — Let the JOTE Committee know about damaged equipment, hazards or anything requiring attention.

👧 Supervise children — Children are welcome at JOTE and should be supervised by an adult.

🐕 Supervise animals — Please keep animals appropriately supervised while in the garden.

🩹 First aid — First aid supplies are available during organised JOTE activities.

🆘 In an emergency — Call 000.

💬 CONCERNS & DISAGREEMENTS

At JOTE, we value respectful, positive and constructive communication.

💬 Talk respectfully — Where possible, discuss concerns calmly and directly.

🤝 Be constructive — Different opinions are okay. We ask members to approach disagreements respectfully and with the aim of finding a solution.

🚫 No aggressive behaviour — Aggressive, intimidating, threatening or abusive behaviour is not acceptable at JOTE.

🌱 Avoid gossip — Concerns about another member should be raised appropriately rather than through gossip or criticism.

👥 Ask the Committee for help — If an issue cannot be resolved, please contact the JOTE Committee for assistance.
